This work I consider a prologue for my recent 'Siege' series. Visually it references documentation of Boko Haram and Moro militants. The spelling 'Bugi' as opposed to 'Bogey' refers to my ancestral tribe the Bugis. A popular theory is that the term 'Bogey man' derived from British descriptions of Bugis pirates. I see these images of militants and terrorists as allegories for contemporary Bogey men; symbols of unknown evil and cruelty that perpetuate fear and suspicion of a mysterious, seemingly depraved, bloodthirsty, foreign enemy.
