To many, Jason is a mystery. You will often see him wandering around. He may look without purpose, but undoubtedly, he is on his way somewhere, to see someone. As I write this, he is in Paris, for no other reason than to keep some friends’ company. He is a ceaseless adventurer who at any one time is involved in a dozen conversations on a dozen different platforms, always bringing his unique perspective to one flummoxed friend or another. He has ‘couch advice’ tattooed on his ankle. I have heard Jason’s practice described like a pole vaulter, where what we see in his work and creative outcomes may have been made in an instant, but what we don’t see is the work that goes into the preparation to get to that point. He may even deny it, but I see his wanderings, his chats and his imaginings as the training required for the artmaking he does. For those who know him he is a precious and generous friend – and for those who don’t; he will always be confounding.
