HOME was developed for 'The Social', an exhibition curated by Megan Monte for the Campbelltown Art Centre. The video documents an installation by Abdul Abdullah that seeks to interrogate 'home' and what that represents in the contemporary multicultural Australian experience. Drawing on the history of colonial settlement outlined in Robert Hughes' Fatal Shores Abdullah looks to reimagine what 'home' represents. This physical manifestation of a concept that is taken for granted by so many, deconstructs that concept and presents in as a fragile, man-made imposition on it's surrounds. As a mixed-race Australian with no inherent ethnic loyalties Abdullah feels strongly that his home is where ever he plants his flag, and in this way he feels he really is what Hughes call the 'colonial currency'.
