Highly Commended in NYSPP
I have been awarded the Highly Commended in the National Youth self Portrait Prize 2009.

...Highly commended was the more traditional oils and enamel work 'Self Portrait as King Abdullah of the Greater Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere', by seventh generation Muslim Australian Abdul Abdullah.

"The image is really strong and the painting is beautiful,''[Stuart Bailey] said. "It has a real power due to its understatement and the ambiguous pose of the subject, who is casually scratching his beard while wearing a crown. For Abdullah, it's a bit of rejection of the popular understanding of an Australian identity.'' ...
